Boot From USB Drive (pre-bios supported)

By: marky in IT & Tips & linux

This was taken from How-To-Geek and I have it here just for archival purposes.  This is by far one of the most helpful tools when dealing with legacy servers!!!

I am not sure who wrote it but if I knew I would give him huge props, not to mention credit for this article as well.

Godammit…

Ask anyone, that I team up with in their computer issues… I fight Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIN very hard.  Primarily due to the viral haven that can be found there.  I want to stress CAN.   Not that if you only stay on the site that you will get one… but rather if you find a tinyurl or any of those obfuscated Continue Reading »

Java and 64bit OS

By: marky in Uncategorized

I have been struggling with Java and getting it to work with my DRAC’s.  So I really needed it to work yesterday and I decided that it was time.  Time to get it working.

After spending all of 5 minutes RTFMing I realized that you have to manually install 64bit Java from here.  Restart your browser and it actually works.

Life isn’t cheap to me…

By: marky in bad form & bullshit

Just saw a comment about how cheap life must be to people that ride motorcycles all year round.  I want to make this very clear to people that don’t understand.  YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!

I ride year round and my life is extremely valuable.  My childeren and wife are priceless.  God gave them to me as a gift and I cherish Continue Reading »

Lost Generation

This is awesome.  Tragic I don’t know that the kids that this is aimed at are going to completely understand it.  I can only hope they understand that GenX f’d up and we are trying to fix it.  Well most of us are.

Fractions in my blog

By: marky in Tips

On my cooking site elkif.com, I post recipes that require fractions. Often I want to make it readable but HTML/Wordpress don’t make any allowance for that. So here is what I use for my fractions;

  • ¼ = ¼
  • ½ = ½
  • ¾ = ¾

There is more if you want different fractions by using ⁄ with a number in front and in back.  An example of fraction slash is 3⁄8 which equals 3⁄8.

Freeware/Donationware Casualty.

Today I am mourning the death of Lingon. An excellent Plist editor for OS X. I was going to write about how Zug told me that there was a dedicated plist editor in 10.6 (one of the few redeeming qualities of 10.6) and then immediately told me that it wasn’t as pretty as Lingon. I started to gather web links so I could give Continue Reading »

Why don’t we help people any longer?

By: marky in FTW & WTF? & bad form & bullshit

I will say it proudly, I am terrified of flying. Absolutely terrified. I kid you not I actually cry when I have to be in an airplane. That is why I Drive to Las Vegas from Reno when business takes me that direction. I am OK with the extra time it takes from my life as I am really that terrified of flying.

Some weeks ago Miller with CDW and I were talking and we were discussing how he was riding around and saw a young lady (kid like 7 years old) wrecked her bike and Continue Reading »

Can they get more obvious?

By: marky in Fun & WTF?

As a long time Slashdot reader I have learned that Slashdot can have some very sensationalistic headlines. This one is by far one of the worst I have seen yet. Saturn has a giant ring around it? Really?

Saturn has rings?

Saturn has rings? Nuh uh!

Antivirus Pro

By: marky in Apple & Malware & Microsoft & Virus & bad form & bullshit & linux

I sent this email out to the staff of my $DAYJOB.

As of late the Technicians of the world have been overrun with some malware called “Antivirus Pro”. It is delevered via a flash banner with Java embedded that runs when you close the popup. Then demands your credit card to remove the virus that it self Continue Reading »
